“Admire the beauty of a small village hidden within the montane forest. Enjoy the year-round cool climate and witness the traditional harvesting of "Bai Miang" (wild tea leaves), while tasting authentic local dishes made from community ingredients.”
Pa Miang Village is an ancient community nestled in the valleys of Mueang Pan District, Lampang Province, with a history spanning over 200 years. The village's name is derived from the abundant natural resource in the area Miang or wild tea trees that grow naturally under the shade of large forest trees. In the past, this area served as a rest stop for travelers and cattle traders. The significance of Pa Miang Village to Lampang Province lies in its role as a model community that has firmly preserved the Miang Culture the traditional Northern Thai practice of consuming and preserving wild tea amidst the changes of the outside world.
The uniqueness of this village is its harmonious lifestyle with nature. You will observe Forest Farming, where villagers protect large trees to provide shade for the Miang plants. The architecture remains largely simple wooden houses built along the hillsides and streams. The atmosphere is serene with a cool climate all year; even during the summer, temperatures remain significantly lower than in the lowlands. The beauty of Pa Miang peaks in February when the white Siew flowers (Bauhinia) bloom across the valley, creating a scene as beautiful as a painting.
A must-try experience at Pa Miang Village is participating in the Miang Harvesting with the locals, which requires skill in selecting tender leaves using a small finger-mounted blade. Additionally, you should taste dishes made from tea leaves, such as Spicy Fresh Miang Leaf Salad which offers a unique astringent and sweet flavor. Staying in a Homestay is highly recommended to experience the genuine kindness of the villagers and to observe the traditional Miang processing from steaming to fermentation a rare wisdom to witness nowadays.
Today, Pa Miang Village has become a key destination for eco-tourism and cultural tourism. Its significance is not just as a getaway, but as a place to learn about human adaptation and sustainable living within forest ecosystems. Visiting here helps support the local economy and preserves the breath of the Miang culture. This village welcomes all travelers seeking peace and a deep connection with the soul of Lampang.
We invite all tourists to climb up and touch the purity of nature at Pa Miang Village. Stroll across small wooden bridges, listen to the flowing water, and sip hot wild tea amidst the mist. You will understand the meaning of simple yet sustainable happiness.
