“Pha Trom Jai Cliff is the highest point in Central Thailand at an elevation of 1,290 meters above sea level, providing vistas of complex mountain ranges and a thick sea of mist during the winter.”
Pha Trom Jai Cliff also known as the Khao Khiao Viewpoint, is located within the jurisdiction of Khao Yai National Park, a vast national park and World Heritage Site. This location is considered the most prominent and highest viewpoint in the Central region. With an elevation measured at approximately1,290 meters above sea level, visitors can fully experience the panoramic views of the complex Dong Phaya Yen mountain range and the lush, fertile forest.
The significance and unique characteristic of Pha Trom Jai is its location on Khao Khiao Peak, home to an Air Force radar station. This area experiences cold and humid weather throughout the year, with comfortable temperatures even in the summer. Especially during winter, this peak becomes a spectacular spot to witness a thick and breathtaking sea of mist blanketing the valleys. Furthermore, the route up to Pha Trom Jai is also a habitat for rare flora, such as various types of orchids and ferns, due to the high humidity, and it is near Pha Diao Dai, another famous viewpoint.
The most impressive time to visit is during the winter (November - January), which offers the highest chance of seeing the sea of mist and the maximum level of cold air. Several species of migratory birds from Siberia and Southern China also reside in the Khao Khiao area during this time, making it a haven for birdwatchers and nature enthusiasts. Visiting Pha Trom Jai offers a feeling of restoring one's heart (Trom Jai literally means 'surrender one's heart') from the chaos of the big city, allowing one to inhale pure ozone fully.
