Jozankei Gensen Park opened in 2005 to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the birth of Monk Miizumi Jozan, the founder of Jozankei Onsen. The park was created to preserve and pass on Jozan’s spirit and philosophy to future generations.

The park’s design recreates the historic moment when Jozan first discovered the natural hot springs, marking the true origin of the Jozankei Onsen town. This concept makes the park not only a place of relaxation but also a living historical landmark.

One of the park’s highlights is “Ontama no Yu,” a dedicated hot spring pool where visitors can boil their own onsen eggs (Onsen Tamago). The process takes approximately 15–20 minutes and is a popular hands-on experience for visitors of all ages.

The park is planted with a variety of broad-leaf trees, offering beautiful scenery throughout the year:

• Spring: Enjoy foot baths beneath blooming cherry blossoms

• Summer: Refresh yourself in lush, deep-green surroundings

• Autumn: One of Jozankei’s most famous spots for vibrant fall foliage

• Winter: Warm your feet in hot spring water while surrounded by snow

Thanks to its thoughtful integration of history, landscape, and usability, the park received the 2005 Green Design Award from Japan’s Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism.

• Purchase eggs from nearby shops before entering the park if you plan to make onsen tamago
