“Famous for its glowing golden ginkgo avenue in late November and the iconic Luffy bronze statue.”
The Kumamoto Prefectural Government Office (熊本県庁) is more than a government facility—it is a favorite public space known for its beautiful natural scenery and symbolic landmarks. The front promenade is lined with mature ginkgo trees that burst into a brilliant golden canopy every late November. During this season, illuminations are often held, transforming the walkway into a magical tunnel of warm light that draws locals, photographers, and travelers alike.
Another highlight is the Luffy bronze statue, one of the official One Piece sculptures installed across Kumamoto as part of the Kumamoto Earthquake Reconstruction Project. This statue symbolizes resilience and hope after the 2016 earthquake. Fans regularly stop by to take photos and follow the One Piece statue trail throughout the prefecture.
Visitors also associate the Government Office with Kumamon, Kumamoto’s beloved mascot, whose main “workplace” is here. While not guaranteed, spotting him during special events is a fun surprise for visitors. With wide open spaces, clean paths, and a calm atmosphere, the area feels more like a public park than an administrative district.
