“Experience the sacredness and admire the beauty of ancient Chinese architecture at this century-old shrine located in the heart of the Chak Ngaeo old Chinese community, a living cultural learning center”
ChaoMae ThapThim ChakNgaeo Shrine is a highly significant religious site and has been the center of faith for the Thai Chinese community in the Bang Lamung area for a very long time. Located in the Ban Chak Ngaeo community an ancient Chinese village with a history spanning back over a hundred years—visitors can sense the scent of the past and the tranquility reflecting a simple lifestyle upon arrival. This place is not only for worship but also serves as a symbol of the deep bond between the community and their devotion to Chao Mae Thap Thim, the goddess who protects travelers and fishermen, ensuring their safety.
The unique and distinctive highlight is the traditional Chinese architecture focusing on exquisite carvings, whether it be the imposing dragons entwined around pillars or the use of red and gold colors symbolizing prosperity according to Chinese beliefs. Inside houses the image of Chao Mae Thap Thim, originally invited from China, which remains in a beautiful and sacred state. Additionally, there are detailed murals and the scent of incense creating a solemn and powerful atmosphere, making it a spot that history enthusiasts and Chinese art lovers must visit to capture impressions.
The surrounding atmosphere of the shrine becomes especially vibrant during the days when the Chak Ngaeo Old Chinese Market is held (usually every Saturday). Visitors can walk from the shrine to the market to see old wooden houses and taste rare traditional Chinese foods. This area feels like traveling back in time to an era where the modern world's chaos cannot enter.
