“A small beach hidden beneath the cliffs of South Head, along a scenic nature trail, offering a private atmosphere near Hornby Lighthouse.”
Lady Bay Beach (formerly known as Lady Jane Beach) is a small beach situated between Camp Cove and South Head, within Sydney Harbour National Park in the Watsons Bay area.
The beach is tucked away below rocky cliffs, accessible by descending stairs from the coastal path. The area features a compact sandy stretch, clear waters, and expansive views over Sydney Harbour, making it ideal for relaxing, sunbathing, and watching sailboats and ferries pass through the harbour entrance.
From the beach and certain sections of the descending stairs, visitors can enjoy picturesque views of the water, coastline, and Sydney city skyline. This spot is perfect for photography, especially high-angle shots taken from the path leading down to the beach.
Beach Characteristics
This is an officially designated Nude Bathing Area, where visitors can choose to wear swimwear or no clothing.
General tourists are welcome to use the area as usual, but should respect the privacy of others, avoid staring or taking unauthorized photographs of individuals. Families traveling with children should be aware of the beach's characteristics before visiting.
Connected Trails
Visitors can reach the beach via the South Head Heritage Trail, which begins near Camp Cove Kiosk. This loop trail is approximately 1 kilometer long, takes about 30 minutes to 1 hour to walk, and includes several sets of stairs.
Along the trail, you can admire cliff faces, harbour and ocean viewpoints, 19th-century military heritage sites, and the Hornby Lighthouse, distinctive with its red and white striped pattern.
