The Trees of Nikrot Temple

The name "Nikrot Temple" literally means Banyan Tree Temple, reflecting the dense banyan groves of the past. In Buddhist history, the Nyagrodha tree is where the Buddha spent time in meditation after enlightenment. Today, the temple grounds and Chao Pho Thep Shrine remain shaded by large trees that add to the site's mystique. The roots often weave through the ancient laterite blocks, creating a visual testament to the passage of time. These trees provide more than just shade; they are integral to the local legends and the guardian spirits of the land.
