Lopburi Style Prang

The Lopburi style prang is rooted in Khmer castle designs but has been modified with the unique local characteristics of Lavo. The shape of the prang is more slender and taller than traditional Khmer structures, with a top that tapers upward in a balanced manner. Materials used are typically laterite or brick, featuring exquisite stucco decorations instead of relying solely on stone carvings. The structure consists of a tiered base, a main body (Ruen That) with niches on all four sides, and a multi-layered crown. The clearest example is the main prang at Wat Phra Si Rattana Mahathat, which served as a prototype for prangs in the early Ayutthaya period.
