Phra See Mum Mueang

Phra See Mum Mueang, officially known as Phra Phuttha Nirarokantraya Chaiwat Chaturathit, is a Sukhothai-style meditation Buddha image bestowed by King Rama IX to be enshrined in the four cardinal directions of Thailand to protect the borders and ensure the well-being of the people, with the Eastern image located at Wat Sala Daeng in Saraburi, while the others are at Lampang City Pillar Shrine (North), Phatthalung Provincial Hall (South), and Khao Kaen Chan in Ratchaburi (West). The creation of this set follows the ancient "Chaturaphutprakarn" tradition dating back to the Ayutthaya period, intended to ward off evil and enhance the nation's destiny, making them highly popular sites for devotees to seek auspiciousness and safety. Beyond their spiritual significance, these four images serve as historical landmarks that unify the hearts of Thai citizens across different regions under the royal grace of the monarchy.
