“An ancient Sukhothai-era Buddhist site featuring a sacred replica Buddha footprint, a Sri Lankan–style bell-shaped stupa, and one of the most scenic panoramic viewpoints in Nakhon Sawan Province.”
Wat Woranat Banphot, commonly known as “Wat Khao Kob,” is one of the most historically and archaeologically significant temples in Nakhon Sawan Province.
Historical Background:
The temple is believed to have been established in 1419 CE (B.E. 1962) by Phraya Ban Mueang of the Sukhothai Kingdom in dedication to his younger brother, Phraya Ram. Originally named “Wat Pak Phra Bang,” the site reflects the strong cultural and artistic influence of the Sukhothai era in the upper Chao Phraya River basin.
Replica Buddha Footprint:
The sacred replica Buddha footprint, dating to the Sukhothai period, is enshrined within a pavilion at the summit of Khao Kob Hill. It is the principal object of reverence at the temple, where devotees traditionally apply gold leaf and pray for blessings and good fortune.
Ancient Monuments and Sacred Objects:
At the foothill stands a large bell-shaped stupa in the Sri Lankan style, officially registered as an ancient monument by the Fine Arts Department. Nearby is a revered statue of Luang Pho Thong, a former abbot and highly respected monk deeply venerated by the people of Nakhon Sawan.
Panoramic Views of Pak Nam Pho:
Thanks to its elevated hilltop location, the temple offers unobstructed panoramic views of Nakhon Sawan city. Visitors can clearly see major waterways, Bueng Boraphet, and the Dechatiwong Bridge.
