“Witness the rare beauty of a “black sand beach,” the only one in Phang Nga, most visible during low tide.”

Nang Thong Beach is a fascinating destination that captivates visitors with a rare natural phenomenon—the striking contrast of black sand mixed with golden sand. The black sand is not dirt but natural deposits of tin ore, a remnant of the region’s rich mining history. In the past, Khao Lak and Takua Pa were among Thailand’s most prosperous tin mining areas, and this unique shoreline serves as a living reminder of that era, transformed by nature into an unusual yet beautiful landscape.

Another iconic feature of the beach is the Khao Lak Lighthouse, built after the 2004 tsunami as both a navigational aid and a symbolic landmark. Its white structure stands in contrast to the deep blue sea and dark-toned sand, creating a picturesque scene. During low tide, visitors can walk along the rocky shoreline toward the lighthouse and enjoy closer views of the Andaman Sea.

The overall atmosphere at Nang Thong Beach is lively yet not overcrowded. The area offers a variety of amenities, including hotels, restaurants, and stylish beachfront cafés. Visiting in the late afternoon is especially recommended, as the golden hues of the sunset reflect beautifully on the black sand and calm sea, creating a dramatic and memorable. A visit here offers both a glimpse into geological wonder and the serene beauty of Thailand’s Andaman coastline.
