“Witnessing the Khuha Kharuehat Royal Pavilion, a striking piece of architecture built inside the cave, when the sunlight perfectly streams down, creating a sacred and iconic image of the National Park.”

Phraya Nakhon Cave is located within Khao Sam Roi Yot National Park and is one of the most famous and unmissable destinations in Prachuap Khiri Khan Province. Accessing the cave is not easy, but the effort is richly rewarded: the journey starts at Laem Sala Beach and requires a hike up and down a hill over a relatively steep and rough path, totaling about 430 meters. This path serves as a mental and physical preparation before encountering the majesty within. Upon reaching the interior, the grandeur and magnificence of the large chamber, with its sinkhole opening to the sky, instantly makes the fatigue vanish.

What makes this cave famous and unique is the Khuha Kharuehat Royal Pavilion, a small structure built during the reign of King Chulalongkorn (Rama V), who visited and stayed overnight in 1890. King Vajiravudh (Rama VI) also visited later and inscribed his royal initials here. The pavilion stands proudly on a mound directly beneath the skylight. When the sunlight beams down at the optimal time, it creates a spectacular shaft of golden light illuminating the pavilion, an incredibly sacred and astonishing sight. The cave is also rich in naturally formed stalactites and stalagmites in various beautiful shapes, such as curtains and large columns.

The best time to visit the cave to catch the sacred light phenomenon is late morning, generally between 10:30 AM and 11:30 AM (varying slightly by season and sun position). Arriving at Laem Sala Beach about an hour before this window is essential. This activity offers a perfect blend of adventure, appreciation for Thai national history, and religious reverence combined with geological beauty. Phraya Nakhon Cave is considered a major symbol of Thai heritage preserved within a pristine natural environment. While the atmosphere inside the cave is serene and cool, the exterior can be hot, so prepare for the climb.

Phraya Nakhon Cave is the perfect spot for professional photographers and landscape artists seeking to capture the unique interplay of light, shadow, and sacred architecture. It is also highly recommended for history buffs eager to follow in the footsteps of kings, as well as those seeking spiritual solace in the midst of natural and historical sanctity. The ascent itself is a rewarding test of one's endurance.

The magic of light and shadow in Phraya Nakhon Cave is a spectacle worth cherishing for a lifetime. We invite everyone to conquer the path to this cave to pay homage to the sacred pavilion and soak in the divine light phenomenon that has made this place famous worldwide.
