“Marvel at a unique natural limestone formation resembling a poodle-like dog, sculpted by wind and sea erosion over thousands of years.”

Khao Ma Chu is one of the interesting natural highlights found along the popular boat route in Phang Nga Bay. The limestone hill stands prominently in the sea between routes leading to Ko Panyi and the famous James Bond Island.

The name “Khao Ma Chu” comes from its distinctive shape. When viewed from the right angle, the limestone formation appears remarkably similar to a dog—often compared to a poodle—lying down. Visitors can clearly imagine the dog’s head, ears, and body formed by the contours of the rock. This unusual appearance has captured the imagination of travelers and has become a fun and memorable sight during boat tours in the bay.

The surrounding environment is rich in mangrove forests and emerald-green seawater, typical of the landscapes of Phang Nga Bay. The contrast between the gray limestone cliffs, the green vegetation growing on top of the rocks, and the shimmering water creates a stunning natural panorama. Tourist boats and traditional long-tail boats frequently pass through this area, adding life and movement to the otherwise peaceful scenery.

Visiting Khao Ma Chu is usually part of a one-day boat tour in Phang Nga Bay. Besides enjoying the unusual shape of the rock formation, visitors can also learn about the geological history of the bay. The limestone mountains seen throughout the area were formed millions of years ago through tectonic movements and long-term erosion by wind and seawater.

Today, Khao Ma Chu stands as a small yet fascinating reminder of the power of nature, showcasing how time, water, and wind can sculpt extraordinary shapes from solid rock in the middle of the sea.
