“Visitors can experience the Hmong way of life and culture up close, enjoy cold-climate flower gardens that bloom year-round, stop en route to Khun Chang Khian to see the wild Himalayan cherry, rent Hmong costumes for photos, and purchase handicrafts, silverware, and tea.”
Hmong Village, Doi Pui, is located atop Doi Pui within Doi Suthep-Pui National Park. It is a community with a history of settlement spanning over 50 years. The Hmong people migrated here after World War II and have preserved their unique traditions, culture, and clothing. The village serves as an open-air museum of Hmong heritage.
Activities and Points of Interest:
Hmong lifestyle and traditional attire: Visitors can walk through the village to observe the locals dressed in colorful traditional Hmong costumes and can rent outfits for photo opportunities in the flower gardens.
Cold-climate flower gardens: These gardens are popular photo spots, featuring a variety of ornamental cold-climate plants, including poppies (grown for educational purposes), which bloom throughout the year (maintenance fee applies).
Hilltribe Museum (Ban Miao): Exhibits include photos, daily-use items, musical instruments, and handicrafts from Hmong and other hilltribes on Doi Pui, providing visitors with insights into their culture (note: some sections may be closed).
Souvenir shops: Throughout the village, shops sell a variety of products including hand-embroidered Hmong clothing, silverware, highland fruits, Chinese tea, coffee, and agricultural products from the Royal Project.
Viewpoints: There are scenic viewpoints of the surrounding forests and mountains, particularly the area known as "Doi Pui Viewpoint."
Important visitor information:
Best time to visit: The village can be visited year-round due to its cool climate, but the most beautiful period is during winter (November–February), when the flowers bloom and the Hmong New Year (Kin Wao Festival) is celebrated with vibrant traditional attire and festivities.
Tourist connections: The village lies along the route connecting Wat Phra That Doi Suthep and Phuping Palace, and it is a starting or stopping point before continuing to Ban Khun Chang Khian to view wild Himalayan cherry trees (Thailand’s cherry blossoms), which bloom around mid-January.
Road conditions: The road from Phuping Palace to the village is narrow, steep, and winding. Exercise caution when driving or consider using a red songthaew (shared taxi).
