“Witness the miracle of the "Erupting Geyser" that sends high-heat energy into the sky, enjoy the fun of boiling eggs in natural mineral water, and relax your body with a hot mineral bath in the cool mountain air.”

Fang Hot Springs has a long history as a major geothermal energy source in Northern Thailand. It is located within the area managed by Doi Pha Hom Pok National Park (formerly known as Mae Fang National Park). This site features a cluster of over 50 hot spring pools scattered across more than 10 rai. Its history began as a geological phenomenon where high-temperature water (approx. 80-100°C) erupts from underground rock layers. It has since been developed into a renowned national health resort and tourist attraction.

The reason Fang Hot Springs became a major landmark is the Big Pool, the largest hot spring with a geyser that shoots steam up to 40-50 meters high at regular intervals (approximately every 30 minutes). This creates a magnificent view similar to geysers found abroad. The area's management focuses on blending nature with beautifully decorated rock gardens, allowing visitors to enjoy the white mist covering the pristine forest.

The general atmosphere of Fang Hot Springs is refreshing and relaxing. The faint scent of sulfur from the natural mineral water and the sound of geysers erupting create a unique identity. Upon entering, you will see white steam drifting over the water's surface. The year-round cool weather in the Fang district makes mineral bathing an excellent experience. The surrounding area is well-organized with grassy paths and small mineral streams, perfect for sitting back or boiling eggs in the designated pools.

A must-do activity is boiling eggs in the hot springs. Both chicken and quail eggs are sold in small baskets, taking only 15-20 minutes to produce delicious "mineral-boiled eggs." Additionally, mineral bathing and foot soaking are available in both communal outdoor pools and private rooms, believed to help relieve fatigue and nourish the skin. For hikers, there are short nature trails nearby to observe wild plants and bird species. Fang Hot Springs is thus a place that provides both physical and mental happiness simultaneously.

The impression of Fang Hot Springs lies in the perfect combination of travel that offers both geological knowledge and relaxation. Every second spent watching energy from beneath the Earth shoot into the sky reflects the greatness of nature. It is a destination suitable for all ages, whether families or groups of friends looking to escape the chaos and soak in one of the clearest and purest mineral springs in Chiang Mai.

How to Get There
  • Private Car: From Chiang Mai city, take Highway 107 toward Fang. Continue until you reach the town of Fang, then turn left onto Road 1090 following the signs for Doi Pha Hom Pok National Park (Fang Hot Springs). The distance is about 160 km from Chiang Mai city. The road is well-paved and easy to drive.

  • Public Transport: Take a bus or van (Chiang Mai–Fang line) to the Fang bus station, then hire a local songthaew or taxi to the national park (approx. 10-15 km).

Travel Tips
  • Best Visiting Season: Accessible year-round, but the winter months (November–February) are most popular as the cold air contrasts beautifully with the heat of the springs.

  • Preparation: Bring a change of clothes if you plan to bathe. Bring your own towel and toiletries (rentals are available, but bringing your own is more convenient).

  • Photography: The erupting geyser is a must-capture spot. Keep a lens cloth handy as the water droplets may fog up your camera lens.

  • Safety: Supervise small children and keep them away from pool edges where temperatures are dangerously high. Strictly follow all warning signs from the park.

  • Facilities: Includes a visitor center, restaurant, coffee shop, and traditional Thai massage services.
