Tsukiji Outer Market is one of the most iconic culinary destinations in the world, located in Chuo City, Tokyo. Although the original inner wholesale market (famous for tuna auctions) relocated to Toyosu in 2018, the outer market continues to thrive as a bustling hub of food culture, home to more than 400 shops and restaurants.

The market is a paradise for food lovers, featuring premium-quality seafood such as sushi, sashimi, and kaisendon (rice bowls topped with fresh seafood). Visitors can also enjoy a wide variety of popular Japanese street foods, including tamagoyaki (Japanese omelet), grilled seafood skewers, fresh oysters, and strawberry daifuku. Most ingredients are sourced daily from Toyosu Market, ensuring exceptional freshness and quality.

One of the key highlights is Tsukiji Uogashi, a modern wholesale-style facility that replaced part of the old inner market’s function. Open to the public, it offers a cleaner and more organized environment where visitors can browse and purchase high-quality seafood and ingredients.

In recent years, especially since 2024, Tsukiji has become extremely crowded. To maintain order and improve the visitor experience, new guidelines have been introduced. Despite the crowds, the market still preserves the authentic spirit of traditional Japanese food culture, making it a must-visit for travelers in Tokyo.
