“Over 30-meter high waterfall, distinctive with its white misty spray, natural pool, and lush, shady forest all year.”
Mork Fa Waterfall is one of the most beautiful and easily accessible waterfalls in Chiang Mai Province. It is situated within the Doi Suthep-Pui National Park Management Zone 5, along the Mae Malai–Pai route (Highway 1095), making it a popular stopover for tourists traveling from Chiang Mai to Pai district or returning to the city.
The waterfall itself is a single-tiered cascade, approximately 30–40 meters high. The water flows down from a large sandstone cliff all year round, hitting the rocks below to create a widespread white misty spray, resembling natural fog – hence the name "Mork Fa Waterfall" (Fog Sky Waterfall). Especially during the rainy season and early winter, the water volume is particularly high, making the waterfall appear most grand and beautiful.
The area around the waterfall is covered by a rich evergreen forest, with numerous ferns, mosses, lichens, and local plant species, keeping the air cool even during the hot season. The echoing sound of the waterfall combined with the tranquil natural surroundings makes it ideal for relaxation, photography, and experiencing the forest atmosphere up close.
At the base of the waterfall, there's a natural pool suitable for swimming when the current is not strong. The stream banks have sandy areas and rocks for resting or picnicking. However, it's advisable to avoid swimming during or immediately after heavy rainfall, as flash floods may occur.
Near the waterfall, there is also a short nature trail, approximately 350–500 meters long, winding through the lush forest. It's perfect for those who wish to observe plants and birds, and there's also a small bat cave, a natural habitat for bats. Additionally, there are comprehensive facilities including a parking lot, restrooms, rest pavilions, a welfare shop, and park rangers to assist tourists.
With a walking distance of only about 350 meters from the parking lot, Mork Fa Waterfall is suitable for tourists of all ages, including families, seniors, and those who want to experience nature without long hikes. It is also one of the most popular natural photography spots along the Chiang Mai–Pai route.
How to Get There
- From Chiang Mai city, take Highway No. 107 (Chiang Mai–Fang) heading towards Mae Taeng District. Upon reaching the Mae Malai intersection, turn left onto Highway No. 1095 (Mae Malai–Pai). Continue for approximately 19 kilometers until you see the Mork Fa Waterfall entrance sign on your left. Then, turn in and drive for about 2 kilometers to the parking lot. From there, walk along a concrete path and a lush natural trail for about 350 meters to reach the waterfall.
