“Admire the refined beauty of well-preserved Sino-Portuguese architecture, featuring graceful arched doorways and intricate stucco detailing.”
Khun Intr Building is a remarkable historical residence nestled within the tranquil setting of Takua Pa Old Town. Constructed around 1917, the building once served as the home of Khun Intrakiri (Choi Na Nakhon), a prominent figure connected to one of the region’s influential families during the height_ of the tin-mining era.
The two-story structure showcases a harmonious blend of Western and Eastern architectural influences. Its wide front balcony is supported by decorative stucco columns inspired by Greek and Roman design, while the interior layout reflects the traditional style of affluent Chinese residences. The roof is covered with classic kite-shaped tiles, and the thick walls help maintain a naturally cool indoor temperature throughout the year.
During Takua Pa’s golden age as a global tin-mining hub, the building symbolized wealth and social status. Today, it remains under the care of the Na Nakhon family descendants and has been officially registered as a heritage site, preserving its architectural and historical significance for future generations.
Surrounded by a peaceful and leafy neighborhood, the building is best appreciated during soft daylight hours when sunlight enhances the intricate stucco details on its white façade. Visiting here offers more than architectural appreciation—it provides a glimpse into the lifestyle and legacy of one of the most important port towns along the Andaman coast.
