“A yellow-rock waterfall in the forest, near a camping ground and the starting point of Mae Pan Nature Trail.”
Huai Sai Lueang Waterfall is a natural waterfall located in Doi Inthanon National Park, Mae Chaem District, Chiang Mai Province. It stands out with its distinctive creamy yellow rock layers formed by the local geology and minerals, creating a beautiful sight when water flows over them, and giving rise to its name "Huai Sai Lueang" (Yellow Sand Stream). The waterfall is approximately 15 meters high and 20–30 meters wide, with water flowing year-round. During the rainy season, the water volume is especially abundant and beautiful.
The area around the waterfall is managed by Doi Inthanon National Park Protection Unit An.3 (Mae Pan). It is surrounded by lush hill evergreen forests and pine forests, offering cool temperatures all year. From the parking lot, visitors can reach the waterfall in just a few minutes on foot, making it suitable for tourists of all ages, including seniors and families looking to relax amidst nature.
Nearby, there is a camping ground, restrooms, and recreational areas provided by the park, perfect for camping, stargazing, and experiencing the cool weather towards the end of the year. Visitors can also continue to the Mae Pan Nature Trail, one of Doi Inthanon's most popular trekking routes. It spans approximately 2.5–3 kilometers and takes about 2–3 hours to walk, passing through hill evergreen forests, rhododendron forests, mountain ridge grasslands, and a sea of mist viewpoint. It is open only from roughly November to May, and visitors must be accompanied by park staff or a local guide as per park regulations.
Additionally, Huai Sai Lueang Waterfall is not far from Mae Pan Waterfall Mae Ya Waterfall Phra Maha That Naphamethinidon and Naphaphonphumisiri Pagodas and Doi Inthanon Summit.
