Inthakhin Mueang Kaen Kiln Museum is an important archaeological learning center in Mae Taeng District, Chiang Mai Province. It was established to preserve and disseminate knowledge about the ancient kiln sites discovered in Inthakhin Subdistrict, which was once a significant center for pottery production in the Lanna Kingdom during the 20th–22nd Buddhist centuries. This reflects the prosperity of craftsmanship, trade, and the way of life of people in the past.

Inside the museum, displays include traces of a Cross-draft Kiln, a type of kiln used to produce various earthenware vessels such as jars, bowls, pots, ewers, and daily utensils. There are also pottery shards, roof tiles, production tools, and archaeological artifacts excavated from sites in the area, allowing visitors to closely study the pottery production process and the evolution of firing technology during the Lanna period.

The Inthakhin kiln site has been continuously surveyed and studied archaeologically. Many kilns have been found scattered throughout the Mueang Kaen area, indicating that this area was once a center for pottery production that played a significant role in Lanna's economy and trade. Some of the products were transported to various communities via the Ping River, an important ancient transportation route.

The museum's exhibits focus on providing knowledge to youth, students, academics, and those interested in history through exhibitions, photographs, excavation plans, kiln models, and media explaining the pottery production process in a sequential manner. This helps to understand the wisdom of Lanna artisans and the importance of Mueang Kaen as an ancient community.

In addition to its historical value, the museum is also a cultural tourist attraction in Mae Taeng District. Visitors can combine their trip with Wat Ban Den (Wat Den Sali Si Mueang Kaen), Mae Ngat Somboon Chon Dam, Si Lanna National Park and other attractions in the area within a single day.

How to Get There

• From Chiang Mai city center, take Highway 107 (Chiang Mai–Fang) towards Mae Taeng District, approximately 40 kilometers. Upon reaching Mueang Kaen Phatthana Municipal area, turn into Inthakhin Subdistrict and continue to the museum, which is located near the Mueang Kaen Phatthana Municipal Office. You can use a private car or take a Chiang Mai–Mae Taeng bus and then connect with local transport to the museum.
