“A tranquil temple near the island’s main pier, surrounded by lush greenery and reflecting the simple lifestyle of the local community.”
Koh Mak Temple serves as an important spiritual center for the community on Koh Mak. It is conveniently located near Ao Nid Pier, the island’s main arrival point, making it one of the easiest cultural sites to visit right after reaching the island.
The temple has strong historical ties to the Sinhasang family, one of the founding families of Koh Mak. The land for the temple was collectively donated by local residents, reflecting the unity of a remote island community in establishing a place for religious practices.
The temple features simple local-style architecture, including an ordination hall and monk residences. Inside, mural paintings depict Buddhist stories alongside scenes of traditional fishing life, giving visitors insight into the island’s cultural identity. The surrounding area is shaded by native trees and maintained in line with Koh Mak’s “Low Carbon Destination” concept, offering a calm and refreshing atmosphere for visitors.
With its peaceful setting and accessible location, Koh Mak Temple is not only a place for merit-making but also a meaningful stop to experience the authentic lifestyle of the island community.
