The Twelve Treasuries

The Twelve Treasuries, or the royal warehouses, consist of 12 rectangular brick buildings used to store the royal wealth and state trade goods. These buildings reflect the flourishing economy and trade during the reign of King Narai the Great, an era of extensive international commerce. A key feature is the thick-walled construction with very few small windows, designed to regulate temperature and prevent the theft of valuable goods. The stored items ranged from silks, spices, and animal hides to silver and gold earned through trade or tributes from various provinces. Today, although only the remains of walls and foundations exist, their orderly alignment still showcases the excellent urban planning and fiscal system of that era.
