Chao Pho Phra Kan is an ancient, jet-black deity figure originally featuring four arms, resembling the Hindu god Vishnu or Narayana. According to archaeological evidence, the original torso was carved from sandstone in Khmer style, while the current head is an Ayutthaya-period Buddha head added later. The people of Lopburi revere him as the city's guardian deity, believing in his sacred power to grant protection, safety, and good fortune. His shrine is situated on a high laterite base, giving rise to its nickname "San Sung" (High Shrine), and is heavily populated by his devoted monkey followers. Each day, individuals from various locations journey here to fulfill their vows and make merit with assorted fruits, reflecting the profound faith and local beliefs of the community.
