San Phra Kan is a revered landmark in Lopburi, situated east of the railway tracks and directly across from Phra Prang Sam Yod. It features an ancient laterite prang base dating back to the Khmer period, topped by a newer shrine constructed in 1953 on the original foundation. The shrine houses a statue of Chao Pho Phra Kan, an ancient four-armed Vishnu figure venerated as the city's protective deity. The surrounding area is populated by numerous monkeys, considered by locals to be disciples of the deity, resulting in frequent food offerings. The new shrine's architecture is simple yet robust, designed with open spaces to accommodate both worshippers and tourists. This site serves not only as the spiritual heart of Lopburi but also as a symbol of the harmonious coexistence of ancient beliefs and urban wildlife.
