Paying Respects

Paying respects usually begins with offering incense, candles, and flowers outside the shrine before entering to apply gold leaf to the replica statue for good fortune. Common offerings for making wishes or fulfilling vows include fresh fruits like bananas, coconuts, or oranges, as well as boiled eggs, a traditional favorite. Additionally, visitors often arrange for Thai classical dance performances or music as a symbol of praise and gratitude toward the city's guardian deity. Devotees typically pray for career success, health, and safe travels, believing that the deity will help clear away obstacles and challenges. After the ceremony, many people share some of the fruit offerings with the monkeys around the shrine, which is considered an act of charity to the deity's attendants.
