“Triple sandbar connecting 3 islands, world-famous Y-shaped viewpoint, Japanese Garden snorkeling spot, and a strict plastic-free island policy preserving pristine nature”
Koh Nang Yuan is one of over 100 islands in Surat Thani, located just off the coast of Koh Tao. It consists of three small islands connected by white sandbars, forming a unique Y-shaped landscape surrounded by crystal-clear emerald waters.
The island’s charm lies in its exceptionally clear sea, where you can easily spot tropical fish, coral reefs, and seashells. With strict environmental management, the island maintains a peaceful, private, and unspoiled atmosphere.
A must-do activity is hiking up to the famous viewpoint, which takes about 15–20 minutes via a slightly steep natural trail with wooden steps. From the top, you’ll enjoy a panoramic view of the three connected sandbars and stunning color gradients of the sea, one of the most photographed views in Thailand.
Snorkeling is easily accessible right from the beach. The highlight spot is the “Japanese Garden”, known for its rich coral formations and colorful marine life, making it ideal for beginners and families. Visitors are encouraged to avoid stepping on corals or touching marine animals.
Important note: The island does not offer standard hotel accommodations for general tourists and is mostly visited as a day trip. Facilities such as restaurants and restrooms are available but limited.
Koh Nang Yuan enforces a strict Plastic Free Zone policy. Visitors are not allowed to bring plastic bottles, cans, foam containers, or harmful sunscreen. There are deposit points before entering the island. It is recommended to bring a reusable water bottle.
The best time to visit is between 10:00 AM – 3:00 PM, when sunlight enhances the vibrant emerald color of the sea. Early visits are recommended for those who want to hike to the viewpoint without crowds.
With its untouched beauty, Koh Nang Yuan is a world-class destination for photographers, snorkelers, and travelers seeking a peaceful tropical escape.
