Wat Mahathat (Phichit)

Wat Mahathat is located within the Phichit Old City Park and is a significant archaeological site dating back to the early Ayutthaya period. It is assumed to have been the religious and cultural center of ancient Phichit for centuries. The main structures consist of a central Prang (corn-shaped tower) built with laterite and terracotta bricks, which, despite weathering over time, still reflects a majestic blend of Ayutthaya and Sukhothai artistic influences. The surrounding area also features the ruins of the main Vihara, with its base and stone pillars still standing amidst the shady trees of the arboretum.
