Chalawan Cave is located within the Phichit Old City Park, south of Wat Mahathat. It is a natural underground passage believed to be the lair of Phaya Chalawan, the legendary powerful crocodile from the folklore of Kraithong. According to legend, the interior is a mystical golden cave where crocodiles transform into humans and require no food. Today, the area around the cave entrance has been developed into a historical and literary tourism site.
