Aji-ike Pond is the centerpiece of Byodoin’s Pure Land Garden, designed to represent the celestial waters of the Western Paradise. Its most iconic feature is the mirror-like reflection of the Phoenix Hall, creating the illusion of a floating palace. Originally featuring a pebble-lined floor, this UNESCO-recognized landscape symbolizes the boundary between the earthly realm and spiritual enlightenment, beautifully integrating the surrounding Uji mountains.
