“A unique Krachang-shaped freshwater aquarium with a spectacular underwater tunnel, combined with boat tours through red lotus fields and rare migratory bird habitats within Thailand’s largest freshwater lake.”
Bueng Boraphet is more than a tourist attraction; it is an internationally significant wetland and one of Thailand’s most important freshwater ecosystems. The lake serves as a vital habitat for diverse wildlife, a major inland fishery, and a key learning center for environmental and ecological studies in the lower northern region of Thailand.
Freshwater Aquarium:
The aquarium is uniquely designed in the shape of a traditional Krachang boat, reflecting Thailand’s river-based culture. Inside, it features over 100 species of native freshwater fish. The highlight is a 24-meter-long underwater tunnel, where visitors can closely observe giant species such as Mekong giant catfish, giant barb, and striped catfish swimming overhead.
Nature Boat Cruises:
One of the most popular activities at Bueng Boraphet is a long-tail boat tour across the expansive lake. Visitors can admire breathtaking landscapes, enjoy blooming red and white lotus fields, and observe numerous resident and migratory birds. Species commonly seen include waterfowl and purple swamphens, and historically, Bueng Boraphet was the only known location where the White-eyed River Martin was discovered.
Conservation & Crocodile Observation Area:
The site also houses wildlife research and conservation facilities, along with a crocodile observation area that allows visitors to safely study reptile behavior while promoting awareness of wetland conservation.
How to Get There
By Private Car:
