“Experience spectacular sea of mist at Noen Kud Doi, brave the "Knife Edge" ridge on Khao Chang Phueak, and enjoy panoramic Thai-Myanmar border views.”

Thong Pha Phum National Park is one of the most pristine forests in western Thailand, encompassing the Khao Phra Rueasi and Khao Bo Rae National Forest Reserves in Thong Pha Phum District, Kanchanaburi Province. Its landscape is characterized by a complex network of mountain ranges stretching north-south, part of the Tenasserim Range which forms the natural border between Thailand and Myanmar. The majority of the area is covered in evergreen rainforest, montane forest, and mixed deciduous forest, making the park a vital watershed for the Khwae Noi River basin and several important tributaries such as Huai Malai, Huai Kob, Huai San, and Huai Ong Phra, which have long sustained the ecosystem and communities of Kanchanaburi Province.

The main charm of Thong Pha Phum National Park lies in its unspoiled and tranquil natural environment. While the lowlands of Kanchanaburi are relatively hot, the park, especially the higher elevations, enjoys cool temperatures year-round. During the late rainy season and early winter, a sea of mist blankets the mountain ridges and various viewpoints, creating breathtaking scenery. Popular viewpoints include Noen Kood Doi, Noen Chang Suek, and Doi Tong Pa Lae, which offer stunning views of the intricate mountain ranges of the Tenasserim Range. The Khao Laem Dam reservoir and the Myanmar border are clearly visible from the viewpoint, especially during sunrise when golden light gradually filters through the mist above the vast forest – a scene considered one of the most beautiful in Kanchanaburi province.

The highlight that makes Thong Pha Phum National Park well-known among hikers nationwide is "Khao Chang Phueak," the highest peak in the park, approximately 1,249 meters above sea level. This hiking trail is famous for its "Knife Edge Ridge," a narrow ridge stretching along the high mountains. Hikers enjoy 360-degree mountain views and experience an atmosphere as if walking above a sea of clouds. The trail is approximately 8 kilometers long, takes several hours to complete, and requires an overnight stay on the summit. The park opens this trail only from approximately October to February and limits the number of hikers per day to preserve the natural environment and ensure the safety of travelers.

In addition to its famous hiking trails, the park also boasts several other natural attractions, such as Jokkradin Waterfall, a large limestone waterfall with beautiful turquoise water cascading into a pool in the middle of the forest. This waterfall is considered one of the most beautiful in Thong Pha Phum district and is easily accessible from the route to Ban E-Tong. Additionally, there are nature trails, Pha Pa Waterfall, and Chet Mit Waterfall, ideal for those seeking a close encounter with nature amidst the sounds of birds and the pristine atmosphere of the western forest.

The area surrounding the park is also connected to communities and important tourist attractions in Thong Pha Phum, especially E-Tong Village and Pilok Mine, former tin mining towns in the mountains that have now become popular tourist destinations. With their tranquil atmosphere, cool weather year-round, and the simple lifestyle of the border community, many tourists prefer to stay overnight in E-Tong before continuing on to the Chang Suek viewpoint or conquering Khao Chang Phueak. This makes Thong Pha Phum National Park more than just a natural tourist destination; it's a place for those who want to experience the mountains, forests, mist, and local culture of the western border region authentically.
