Jizoyama: The Hill of a Thousand Jizo
Located in Shitenno-ji's northeast, Jizoyama is a sacred mound housing thousands of stone Jizo Bosatsu statues. These figures, often wearing red bibs, are guardians of children and souls in the afterlife. It is a place of profound peace where devotees offer prayers for protection and memorialize the departed. This "mountain" of statues symbolizes the vast, encompassing mercy of the Bodhisattva within the temple’s historic grounds.
