Altar of Reimei-den
The central altar of this Hiwadabuki-roofed hall, designed by Kameoka Suekichi, enshrines the mortuary tablets of generations of Ninnanji’s Monzeki. It stands as a solemn site of remembrance, blending architectural precision with the temple’s deep-rooted Imperial history and spiritual continuity.
The focal point is the seated Yakushi-Nyorai statue, a National Treasure from the late Heian period. Measuring only 10.7 centimeters tall, this miniature masterpiece resides upon the altar as a symbol of divine healing, celebrated for its exquisite craftsmanship and status as a superior work of Japanese art.
