Kon-do (The Golden Hall)
The Kon-do is the Main Hall of Ninnaji and is designated as a National Treasure of Japan. This building originally served as the Shishinden (Main Hall) of the Kyoto Imperial Palace before being moved to Ninnaji in the early 17th century, making it a rare example of imperial palace architecture within a temple setting.
It enshrines the image of Amida Nyorai, the primary deity of the temple. The hall's elegant hip-and-gable roof and refined wooden structures reflect the high status of Ninnaji as an imperial temple and the grandeur of the early Edo period’s craftsmanship.
