Goju-no-To (Five Storey Pagoda)
Erected in 1644, this 33-meter-tall pagoda is a definitive example of early Edo-period architecture. Unique for its uniform floor widths from bottom to top, it offers a distinctively stable and grand silhouette compared to other Japanese pagodas.
Designated as an Important Cultural Property, it enshrines esoteric Buddhist deities and features vibrant internal paintings. The pagoda is world-famous for its harmony with the "Omuro" cherry blossoms, creating one of the most quintessential scenic views in Kyoto.
