The Giants of Wat Arun

The Giants of Wat Arun (Yak Wat Chaeng) are two large guardian statues standing at the entrance of the ordination hall, famous from the Tha Tien legend. The white giant is named Sahatsadecha, and the green giant is Tosakan (Ravana); both are dressed in majestic warrior regalia, holding clubs as weapons. According to ancient beliefs, these giants serve as protectors of the sacred grounds against evil and symbolize power and awe. The craftsmanship of these statues is highly exquisite, differing from the giants at Wat Pho with intricate glass decorations and fine stucco patterns typical of the Rattanakosin style.
