The Foreigner Statues

Within the grounds of Wat Arun and the original palace, there are Chinese stone carvings of Farang or Westerners placed as decorations. These statues were highly popular during the reign of King Rama III, an era marked by flourishing international trade. The statues are typically depicted wearing hats and Western attire of that period, reflecting the influence and perspectives of Chinese craftsmen toward foreigners. The presence of Westerner statues alongside Chinese warriors and auspicious animals reflects the cultural diversity within the ancient royal capital.
