The Ordination Hall

The Ordination Hall of Wat Arun is an architectural masterpiece rebuilt during the reign of King Rama II and extensively restored by King Rama III, featuring a grand traditional Thai design. The pediment is adorned with exquisite stucco patterns, while the surrounding terrace is decorated with various "Chinese stone figures" (Ballast) imported during ancient maritime trade. Inside, it houses "Phra Phuttha Dhammisharaj Lokadhatudilok" as the principal Buddha image, for which King Rama II himself reportedly modeled the facial features. Beyond its religious significance, the hall serves as a royal memorial, as the ashes of King Rama II are enshrined within the base of the principal Buddha image for public veneration.
