Phra Phuttha Champhunut Maha Purusha Lakkhana Asitayanubophit is a Buddha image in the subduing Mara posture, enshrined as the principal image inside the Minor Vihara (the old Vihara) of Wat Arun. This image is notably beautiful, cast in copper and gilded with gold, with a name that refers to the 80 auspicious characteristics of a Great Man according to Buddhist cosmology. During the reign of King Rama III, it was commissioned alongside Phra Phuttha Narumit to be placed in this sacred area, which formerly housed the Emerald Buddha. Devotees often come to pay respects to this image to pray for grace, prestige, and prosperity, inspired by the auspicious meaning of its name and its historical significance.
