King Taksin the Great

King Taksin the Great shared a profound connection with Chaeng Temple (now Arun Temple), as he designated it the royal temple within the grounds of the Thonburi Palace. Historically, this temple housed the Emerald Buddha for five years before it was moved to the Rattanakosin side.

Key sites within the temple dedicated to him include:

  • The Old Ordination Hall: Home to the Meditation Pedestal, believed to be the exact spot where the King practiced intensive meditation.

  • King Taksin the Great Shrine: Located by the riverside, this is a popular spot for locals and visitors to pay respects and honor his legacy in liberating the nation.

  • The Minor Vihara: The original location where the Emerald Buddha and sacred relics were enshrined during his reign.
